What is Bali best known for?
I gotta be honest. There are many reasons why Bali is so popular, and most travel writers will tell you about its stunning landscapes, awesome beaches, vibrant food scene, dazzling religious ceremonies, cold beer, hot days, blazing sunsets, and starry nights.
I could go on and on!
But I think the thing Bali is best known for is the Balinese people.
They have a mix of humor, wisdom, innocence, street-smarts, artistic flair, and communal zeal that all blend together into a cocktail of charm that you just can’t find anywhere else.
Sure, people will talk about Bali’s stunning beaches, vibrant culture, religious commitment, and lush landscapes. And I love all of these features as well.
Explorers will rave about Bali's most famous attractions, including the iconic rice terraces in Ubud, the majestic temples such as Uluwatu Temple and Besakih Temple, and the vibrant beach towns like Seminyak and Kuta.
And bargain-hunting homemakers enthusiastically comb the island for its traditional arts and crafts, such as intricate woodcarvings and beautiful batik fabrics.
In between yoga at sunrise and cocktails at sunset, travelers get into surfing, diving, yoga retreats, and spa treatments—it’s like we just can’t help ourselves but to have endless fun. It’s all a part of what makes Bali so special.
And while all this frenzied enjoyment is going on, the Balinese people are there, with their smiles, devoted to sharing their culture and busily keeping their unique lifestyle and traditions alive. More than anything else, this is what makes Bali the best place to visit.
Bali is an intoxicating dream, and it all starts with its people.
I think that is why Bali is so popular, and after the flurry of fun is over and you have returned home, the thing you will remember most is the Balinese people.
